Van COE ending — renew or change vehicle

You must deal with the COE before it expires. If you do not, the vehicle has to be deregistered.

A commercial van sits in Category C. You can renew for 5 years or 10 years, or you can change vehicle.

A goods vehicle can take another 5-year renewal later, up to its 20-year lifespan. A car cannot.

Keep road tax and insurance from lapsing

LTA will not renew road tax unless the vehicle is insured for that whole road-tax period.

If insurance lapses first, road tax cannot follow. The van then sits.
